What is Arbitration

Arbitration is a form of dispute resolution where a private, judicial determination of a dispute is made by an independent party. It may consist of one or more arbitrators. Usually, arbitration will consist of either one or three arbitrators. The dispute is handed over to the arbitrator(s) to decide and their decision will either be binding or nonbonding, depending upon the manner in which the proceeding is initiated. Arbitration is usually an alternative to a lawsuit and generally is just as binding. The advantages include privacy, speedy resolution of issues and the ability to decide who the arbitrator is. It would be similar to hiring a private judge to resolve issues.
